Jan 18, 2022     Squeeze rivets, locker door rivet, and heat shrink - (3 hours) Category: Wings
Today was the first group of squeeze rivets that I've used on this plane. I decided that the aileron trim motor access panel sat more flush with squeeze rivets rather than the wee-tiny pull rivets. So I borrowed a friend's (Kevin) squeezer, nutplate jig, and some solid rivets and it looks to have worked out pretty well (after some tinkering around)
I also went ahead and riveted the wing locker door (was still all clecos, go figure).
Lastly for the night, I wired the fuel tank ground, the sender mount ground, and the sender power and ground wires and routed them to the wing root. I incased them in heat shrink as well.
Checking those three things off my list of things to do, I noticed and added a new item. I noticed that nose ribs 1-3 are not riveted yet, still just clecoed. Not sure why I waited on that, since I had already pressure checked the tank and connections. - sigh - I stuck a hand riveter in there and was able to semi-comfortably reach every one for reach-test (not riveted yet, that's for tomorrow). It looks like that I may have to remove the nose skin (not riveted yet either) to get the very bottom rivets which are right next to the tank and behind the main fuel line.
